A real life story that some of us have heard and read before, the story of Steve Jobs. It is said that he was fired from ‘Apple’ the company he started himself from scratch, but then he was taken back later on to manage it as CEO. And to this day there is a speculation that Apple wouldn’t be so much successful and where it is today if it wasn’t because of this famous Visionary.
In the Bible, in the book of John chapter 2 verse 13 to 22, reading from New Living Bible translation (NLT) it records that; “It was nearly time for the Jewish Passover celebration, so Jesus went to Jerusalem. In the Temple area He saw merchants selling cattle, sheep, and doves for sacrifices; He also saw dealers at tables exchanging foreign money. Jesus made a whip from some ropes and chased them all out of the Temple. He drove out the sheep and cattle, scattered the money changers’ coins over the floor, and turned over their tables. Then, going over to the people who sold doves, He told them, “Get these things out of here. Stop turning My Father’s house into a marketplace!” Then His disciples remembered this prophecy from the Scriptures: “Passion for God’s house will consume Me.” But the Jewish leaders demanded, “What are you doing? If God gave You authority to do this, show us a miraculous sign to prove it.” “All right,” Jesus replied. “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” “What!” they exclaimed. “It has taken forty-six years to build this Temple, and you can rebuild it in three days?” But when Jesus said “this temple,” He meant His own body. After He was raised from the dead, His disciples remembered He had said this, and they believed both the Scriptures and what Jesus had said.”
Whether you believe Jesus or not, but just take a glimpse and look around. There are so many Christians, especially born again Christians in this world today than it was before Jesus died on the Cross. Every day more and more people are seeking and desiring God, and they come to Jesus so that He can show them the real and true way to God, reuniting and bringing them in communion with God the Father.
Have you also ever been fascinated by people who have been creating and selling successful business one after one? They create one today and then sell it in one year; after that they go and create another one and it becomes successful, and then they sell it, and so forth. This is so much common nowadays in business world. People will create a certain business online, run it until it becomes successful and then sell it. And then they will create another one, run it again, and then sell it.
Successful people think different than unsuccessful people, and they get up each time they fall.
Successful people know and have this mentality that if all of these they own today can be taken away tomorrow, they are well equipped and capable to build them again, perhaps even better. You can take their businesses, you can take their money, but you can’t take away what is in them; the intelligence, knowledge, skills, experiences, and so on that they have already gained and have in them. These are the people who have created things before from the scratch, there is a chance they can do it again if they lost the ones they have now.
The lesson really is not about what they have achieved, but is about whom they have become and what they are capable of. When something is in you, then you will know how to build it and create that something very well. And even when somehow it is taken away, you can start again from scratch to build another one.
And that’s another difference between successful and unsuccessful people. When they face a loss of a business or job, they cry and mourn, but do not let it be permanent situation. They find a way to get up, seek for another opportunity and rebound quickly. If it’s something they know how to do best, and they have studied that area and they practiced over and over again for many years, they will rise again with something similar or a little bit different.
The Bible has this good, but also sad story in the book of Job. The story is about Job himself, a devout man who went through severe tragedy and lost almost about everything he had. Let’s see; he lost his children, health, good name, wealth, and I mean property, and other belongings, and so on. It looks like God was so impressed by Job’s devotion to Him and because of that God challenged the devil or satan and allowed the devil to test Job’s obedience and faith. Let’s just say satan did the job very well but yet lost the challenge, because Job though he almost lost everything he had and important to him, he still remained faithful to God. To make the story short, in the end, God blessed Job with twice as much as he had before he was severely tested.
Only God knows if some of us we will ever make it if we would be tested this severely like Job in the Bible. But, my point for sharing this story also is that sometimes faith is the main key that you need to unlock things after you have faced a loss, failure, or some kind of defeat.
Even if you have knowledge, skills, and experiences to do certain things or create and build businesses, but if you don’t take a leap of faith to make it happen again especially after you have faced several defeats like Job, you will never get back up again.
Sometimes God is ready to open, or has already opened these doors of possibilities for us to do amazing and spectacular things again, but unfortunately we have lost faith in God and ourselves, so we refuse to try again. We keep analyzing what we have lost; our time, money, energy, and other resources, and so allow our anger and resentment to take control of us.
Successful people are different though, they take the loss as part of life. Just like in the game, there is winning and losing; therefore even in life there is winning and losing. This means if you play your cards well next time around, chance is, you will win.
Successful people have faith in possibilities, and in God. Not only they believe they can do it, but also believe God is well able to open another door or opportunity for them, and that’s why they get back up again and again after each fall, or defeat, or loss.
