Let’s start by reading the book of Genesis chapter 15 verses 1 to 6. It records, “After this, the word of The LORD came to Abram in a vision: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.” But Abram said, “Sovereign LORD, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?” And Abram said, “You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir.” Then the word of the LORD came to him: “This man will not be your heir, but a son who is your own flesh and blood will be your heir.” He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.”
The fact is, in order to stay on track toward fulfilling our goals and dreams in life, it’s important to maintain clear vision of what those goals are, and what things will look like once they are achieved. As you can read the above Bible passage, it didn’t start today. In those days, I’m not sure they had notebooks, Microsoft Office essentials, Cameras, Printers, Vision boards, hahaha. But regardless of what they didn’t have, it didn’t stop God to show Abram who later called Abraham, a clear vision of what He was going to do in his life.
Nowadays we can use and create vision boards, or dreams and goals books to support us when it comes to achieving our dreams and goals in our lives. Vision is the most motivational tool for success. The more you have a clear vision of your dreams and goals, the more you will be motivated to see it come through. This is because you now have a clear vision or picture of your destination; you know what you want, where you are going, and why you are going there. Once you have a clear vision, it will be easy to lay out a plan and action steps for your dreams and goals that will help you to arrive to your destination or desire outcome.
You need to keep your dreams and goals before your eyes. You need to envision yourself with vision memories. You need to imagine your future. Dreams and goals book, or vision boards can help us dream, think, and imagine ourselves succeeding before we ever achieve them.
In the book of Habakkuk chapter 2 verse 2, it says, “Then the LORD said to me, “Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others.” Write down your vision. Write down what you envision yourself becoming and achieving. Write down your vision memories.
The process is not that complicated. Type on a word document, or get yourself a pen, and a paper or notebook, and write “My to Be, Do, and Have List.” It’s kind like a drafted or brain-dump bucket list, and the reason for this list is to help you discover and figure out what is it you really want in your life. Separate your list on three sections.
The first section, write what you would like to be. For example to be a fashion designer, a comedian, maybe an author and writer like me, hahaha. Don’t limit yourself of how far you can go and achieve in your life or you may be capable to handle. It’s a dream book, not really a reality-check book, so dream big as you can.
Then move to another section. Write down the activities if given a chance you would like to do, or you think you will enjoy doing. For example traveling, maybe visit Paris, my lover’s city…hahaha. To someone it could be to go to Mars…hahaha. Another it could be skydiving, to join a sport. I mean, some things are too daunting for me. Things like skydiving, I don’t consider them fun, unless it’s a matter of life and death, and I have got to do it…hahaha.
On your third section write what you would like to have, and the possessions you would like to own. For example a big and fat checking account of so and so amount. To another it could be your own big library of books and lifetime studying resources at home. Maybe you would like to own a boat, and et cetera.
Then you will come to what I call a narrowing down process to your perfect bucket list. This is where you pick what really resonate with you or what you could see yourself become in years to come. If you can see yourself getting there then you can achieve it. God told Abraham to lift up his eyes and look, because as far as he can see, he will give him as an inheritance. This is what The Bible records in the book of Genesis chapter 13 verses 14 to 17, “The Lord said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west. All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever. I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted. Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you.”
Envision yourself what can become possible for you despite on what is really going on around you. This is the place you need to provide that clarity. When you narrow down your list, be clear about what you want. For instance, if its money, you need to know how much and by when. If it’s about traveling, then you also need to know where, with whom, when and how long.
Here is the fun part. It’s time to collect your images to give that clear picture of your dreams just like God showed Abraham and asked him to look at the dust of the earth, that’s how much or many his children will be. Get yourself images that sound like your dreams and goals from the magazines, internet, or create your own personal photos collages that represent each of your items on your to “Be, Do, and Have List.”
Once you have those images for each one, use them to create your dreams and goals book, or your vision board. How you do it is up to you. Maybe do a Google search online for more inspiration. There are bunch of videos on YouTube that show different ways you can create your own dreams and goals book, or your vision board. I have a vision board, and a dream and goals book, both having same pictures. I hang my vision board on my door so that every time I pass through I see it. I have my dream and goals book on my desk for easy access.
Remember, it took Abraham a long time, years actually to see the manifestation of God’s promises in his life. And even after he left to be with The Lord, afterward what God promised him was still manifesting generation after generation. If Abraham in heaven right now can look down on earth, he will be able to see the fullness and faithfulness of God in his life of what He promised him.
Your dreams and goals may be different, maybe not as big as others, but they are your dreams and goals. The same thing concerning on timing, just because for others may take longer, yours do not have to be so depending on the nature of your dreams and goals, level of your faith and response, and seriousness. Do your best to make your vision for your dreams and goals as clear as you can. The clear they are the better.
Leave a space on your dreams and goals book so that you can compare the old images with your new pictures or images of you accomplishing or receiving each of your items on your dreams and goals book. So leave space on your dream book to glue your new images for the accomplishments and actualization of your dreams and goals. For each item, leave a space, or a page, where you can stamp success on your new images, put your gratitude notes, and track all the dreams and goals you have accomplished and receiving from God.
The beauty of these dreams and goals books, and vision boards is that not only they can provide direction to us of where we are heading, but each time we are discouraged and unmotivated, we can look at our dreams and goals books, or go to our vision boards to remind ourselves, and tell ourselves “This is where I am going. Everything is going to work out. By God’s grace my dreams and goals shall come to pass. I really don’t know how, but by God’s grace everything is going to work out for me because if God did for others He can do for me too. The goodness and riches of God are not reserved for a few others, me too if I believe I can receive them. It is clear and known that He is a loving God who wants the best for all His children.”
When you have a vision or direction in your life and it’s constantly in front of you, it will be hard for you to be pulled to different directions, and to wasting your time. We need to keep our visions constantly before our eyes because out of sight, out of mind. We have got to behold the pictures of where we are heading. When we have those clear pictures constantly in our minds things will eventually start showing up in our lives. Therefore create a vision for your life, and then work relentlessly towards making it to come to pass.
Even though we may not know how or have a clear plan of action items in the beginning, God is well able. With the visions we have God can create opportunities for us in places where we may think there is none. He can help us make our dreams and goals come true. God can bring us ideas, opportunities, resources, and relationships to help us achieve our dreams and goals. Once you are clear on what you want, the how somehow will represent itself. Usually if you have a clear vision, you will eventually attract the right plan and strategy.
