Oh well, my heart is telling me to just post again today this post as a continuation of “The Kingdom Of GOD In series,” and after this post, I will go ahead and continue where we left on The Importance Of Faith series.
You know some people may be praying with me to rebuke these demonic and evil spirits in our lives but they don’t know really what they are rebuking. Some of these evil spirits are easy to understand because their names are so obvious. Today we will learn about the Jezebel spirit.
- Jezebel spirit
Another notorious spirit that affects so many of us including anointed believers if not careful. It is known as the spirit sent to steal, kill, and destroy. It is the devilish spirit, and it has the forms of envy and selfishness spirits to the point that it can steal, kill, and destroy. We have probably seen this spirit operating in our workplaces, our homes, and so forth.
The LORD JESUS introduced this Jezebel spirit in the book of John chapter 10. Let’s read from verses 1 to 18. It says and the LORD JESUS said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” Jesus used this illustration, but they did not understand the things which He spoke to them. Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them. The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep. I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and I am known by My own. As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.” “Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.”
As you can see, the Lord Jesus talks about a lot things just from this Bible passage alone. So many things to learn here; maybe let’s just address a few of them. One, the Lord Jesus mentions here that He is the Original Shepherd; all other shepherds who came before him are thieves and robbers.
Then He continued and said, He is the Door. Door to what? As you can see the content following it, you will know He is the door to Salvation. Not only that He is the door to Salvation, but He is the door to Provision of life. He said, “If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.” Now this provision is more than the life we live now, but eternally, because as the passage continues He said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Basically He came to increase. He did not come to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.
Another thing we learn is that He is the Good Shepherd. But also He is not the hired shepherd. In other words, He is the original owner of the sheep, a.k.a, us, people of GOD and everything basically of GOD’s creation.
In the book of John chapter 1 verses 6 to 13, Apostle John said, “There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
So the Lord Jesus said, He is the original, the sheep belongs to Him, and that’s why He even lay down His life for them so that He could save them. And He said “The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep.” The hiring shepherd flees, because the sheep don’t belong to them; there are just hired temporary. He then continued and said, “Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.” So He was not forced by the FATHER GOD to lay down His life for us, He did out of His love. Amazing right.
You know Apostle Paul said in the book of Romans chapter 1 verse 16 “I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the Power of God for salvation [from His wrath and punishment] to everyone who believes [in Christ as Savior], to the Jew first and also to the Greek.”
But also in John chapter 4, there was a conversation going on between the LORD JESUS and this Samaritan woman, and the Bible records in verses 19 to 26 that “Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet. Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem. “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When He comes, He will explain everything to us.” Then Jesus declared, “I, the One speaking to you—I am He.”
When the Lord Jesus said “And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.” My thinking and understanding, this other sheep fold is the Gentiles, all non-Jewish people that include you and me…hahaha. So Salvation began from Jews and then it extended to the rest of all people of the world.
May be let us continue discussing this Jezebel spirit. I wanted us to have a picture of this Jezebel spirit, and why it comes to steal, kill, and destroy.
Why is it called Jezebel spirit? Well, as the name says, this demonic and devilish spirit was named after this woman in the Bible who was possessed and had all the characteristics of this spirit of the devil.
Let’s read the book of 1 Kings chapter 18 verses 1 to 40. The Bible records that “Later on, in the third year of the drought, the Lord said to Elijah, “Go and present yourself to King Ahab. Tell him that I will soon send rain!” So Elijah went to appear before Ahab. Meanwhile, the famine had become very severe in Samaria. So Ahab summoned Obadiah, who was in charge of the palace. (Obadiah was a devoted follower of the Lord. Once when Jezebel had tried to kill all the Lord’s prophets, Obadiah had hidden 100 of them in two caves. He put fifty prophets in each cave and supplied them with food and water.) Ahab said to Obadiah, “We must check every spring and valley in the land to see if we can find enough grass to save at least some of my horses and mules.” So they divided the land between them. Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself. As Obadiah was walking along, he suddenly saw Elijah coming toward him. Obadiah recognized him at once and bowed low to the ground before him. “Is it really you, my lord Elijah?” he asked. “Yes, it is,” Elijah replied. “Now go and tell your master, ‘Elijah is here.’” “Oh, sir,” Obadiah protested, “what harm have I done to you that you are sending me to my death at the hands of Ahab? For I swear by the Lord your God that the king has searched every nation and kingdom on earth from end to end to find you. And each time he was told, ‘Elijah isn’t here,’ King Ahab forced the king of that nation to swear to the truth of his claim. And now you say, ‘Go and tell your master, “Elijah is here.”’ But as soon as I leave you, the Spirit of the Lord will carry you away to who knows where. When Ahab comes and cannot find you, he will kill me. Yet I have been a true servant of the Lord all my life. Has no one told you, my lord, about the time when Jezebel was trying to kill the Lord’s prophets? I hid 100 of them in two caves and supplied them with food and water. And now you say, ‘Go and tell your master, “Elijah is here.”’ Sir, if I do that, Ahab will certainly kill me.” But Elijah said, “I swear by the Lord Almighty, in whose presence I stand, that I will present myself to Ahab this very day.” So Obadiah went to tell Ahab that Elijah had come, and Ahab went out to meet Elijah. When Ahab saw him, he exclaimed, “So, is it really you, you troublemaker of Israel?” “I have made no trouble for Israel,” Elijah replied. “You and your family are the troublemakers, for you have refused to obey the commands of the Lord and have worshiped the images of Baal instead. Now summon all Israel to join me at Mount Carmel, along with the 450 prophets of Baal and the 400 prophets of Asherah who are supported by Jezebel.” So Ahab summoned all the people of Israel and the prophets to Mount Carmel. Then Elijah stood in front of them and said, “How much longer will you waver, hobbling between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him! But if Baal is God, then follow him!” But the people were completely silent. Then Elijah said to them, “I am the only prophet of the Lord who is left, but Baal has 450 prophets. Now bring two bulls. The prophets of Baal may choose whichever one they wish and cut it into pieces and lay it on the wood of their altar, but without setting fire to it. I will prepare the other bull and lay it on the wood on the altar, but not set fire to it. Then call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the Lord. The god who answers by setting fire to the wood is the true God!” And all the people agreed. Then Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, “You go first, for there are many of you. Choose one of the bulls, and prepare it and call on the name of your god. But do not set fire to the wood.” So they prepared one of the bulls and placed it on the altar. Then they called on the name of Baal from morning until noontime, shouting, “O Baal, answer us!” But there was no reply of any kind. Then they danced, hobbling around the altar they had made. About noontime Elijah began mocking them. “You’ll have to shout louder,” he scoffed, “for surely he is a god! Perhaps he is daydreaming, or is relieving himself. Or maybe he is away on a trip, or is asleep and needs to be wakened!” So they shouted louder, and following their normal custom, they cut themselves with knives and swords until the blood gushed out. They raved all afternoon until the time of the evening sacrifice, but still there was no sound, no reply, no response. Then Elijah called to the people, “Come over here!” They all crowded around him as he repaired the altar of the Lord that had been torn down. He took twelve stones, one to represent each of the tribes of Israel, and he used the stones to rebuild the altar in the name of the Lord. Then he dug a trench around the altar large enough to hold about three gallons. He piled wood on the altar, cut the bull into pieces, and laid the pieces on the wood. Then he said, “Fill four large jars with water, and pour the water over the offering and the wood.” After they had done this, he said, “Do the same thing again!” And when they were finished, he said, “Now do it a third time!” So they did as he said, and the water ran around the altar and even filled the trench. At the usual time for offering the evening sacrifice, Elijah the prophet walked up to the altar and prayed, “O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, prove today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant. Prove that I have done all this at your command. O Lord, answer me! Answer me so these people will know that you, O Lord, are God and that you have brought them back to yourself.” Immediately the fire of the Lord flashed down from heaven and burned up the young bull, the wood, the stones, and the dust. It even licked up all the water in the trench! And when all the people saw it, they fell face down on the ground and cried out, “The Lord—he is God! Yes, the Lord is God!” Then Elijah commanded, “Seize all the prophets of Baal. Don’t let a single one escape!” So the people seized them all, and Elijah took them down to the Kishon Valley and killed them there.”
Jezebel was the daughter of the king Ithobaal and the wife of king Ahab. The Bible says this Jezebel woman was a serious an idol worshiper to the point that she was supporting about 450 prophets of the god called Baal and 400 prophets of the god called Asherah. She relied on false prophets and gods. She was the worst influence in her husband life, king of Israel at the time, king Ahab. She made her family and the people under their leadership to refuse to obey the commands of the Lord God, and influenced them to worship the images of other gods instead. Jezebel even tried to kill all the Lord’s prophets.
So the Lord wanted to put an end to her and her influence, and the influence of these gods that was disgracing the nation of Israel, and destroyed king Ahab dynasty.
This Jezebel was very controlling to the point that the true prophets of God in the region were afraid of her; she even threatened to kill Elijah, one of the most anointed prophets in Israel at that time.
In the book of 1 Kings chapter 19 verses 1 and 2, it says that “When Ahab got home, he told Jezebel everything Elijah had done, including the way he had killed all the prophets of Baal. So Jezebel sent this message to Elijah: “May the gods strike me and even kill me if by this time tomorrow I have not killed you just as you killed them.”
You can see here, even though her husband was the one who was the king, but she was the one in charge of everything. She was controlling her husband even though he was the one who was the king, so she basically had power to control the entire Israel Nation at that time. The Nation that relied on and worshiped only the Living GOD, JEHOVAH.
In the book of 1 Kings chapter 21 verses 1 to 16, it shows how manipulative and controlling this woman was. It says that “Now there was a man named Naboth, from Jezreel, who owned a vineyard in Jezreel beside the palace of King Ahab of Samaria. One day Ahab said to Naboth, “Since your vineyard is so convenient to my palace, I would like to buy it to use as a vegetable garden. I will give you a better vineyard in exchange, or if you prefer, I will pay you for it.” But Naboth replied, “The Lord forbid that I should give you the inheritance that was passed down by my ancestors.” So Ahab went home angry and sullen because of Naboth’s answer. The king went to bed with his face to the wall and refused to eat! “What’s the matter?” his wife Jezebel asked him. “What’s made you so upset that you’re not eating?” “I asked Naboth to sell me his vineyard or trade it, but he refused!” Ahab told her. “Are you the king of Israel or not?” Jezebel demanded. “Get up and eat something, and don’t worry about it. I’ll get you Naboth’s vineyard!” So she wrote letters in Ahab’s name, sealed them with his seal, and sent them to the elders and other leaders of the town where Naboth lived. In her letters she commanded: “Call the citizens together for a time of fasting, and give Naboth a place of honor. And then seat two scoundrels across from him who will accuse him of cursing God and the king. Then take him out and stone him to death.” So the elders and other town leaders followed the instructions Jezebel had written in the letters. They called for a fast and put Naboth at a prominent place before the people. Then the two scoundrels came and sat down across from him. And they accused Naboth before all the people, saying, “He cursed God and the king.” So he was dragged outside the town and stoned to death. The town leaders then sent word to Jezebel, “Naboth has been stoned to death.” When Jezebel heard the news, she said to Ahab, “You know the vineyard Naboth wouldn’t sell you? Well, you can have it now! He’s dead!” So Ahab immediately went down to the vineyard of Naboth to claim it.”
I mean this woman was very controlling and manipulative and very dangerous. She didn’t mind to kill, steal, tell lies; she didn’t have the fear of GOD at all. She was a murderer and a thief. She first made false accusation of this man called Naboth, then made him to be killed, so that she could steal and gave his vineyard to her husband.
She killed for the piece of land, the vineyard that her husband wanted. I’m pretty sure they were already rich and wealthy. What kind of greed, mmh!
Anyway, to make the story of Jezebel short, if you continue in the following chapters, in the book of 2 Kings chapter 9 verses 30 to 37, the Bible says Jezebel went on dying a disgraceful death. The Bible passage records that “When Jezebel, the queen mother, heard that Jehu had come to Jezreel, she painted her eyelids and fixed her hair and sat at a window. When Jehu entered the gate of the palace, she shouted at him, “Have you come in peace, you murderer? You’re just like Zimri, who murdered his master!” Jehu looked up and saw her at the window and shouted, “Who is on my side?” And two or three eunuchs looked out at him. “Throw her down!” Jehu yelled. So they threw her out the window, and her blood spattered against the wall and on the horses. And Jehu trampled her body under his horses’ hooves. Then Jehu went into the palace and ate and drank. Afterward he said, “Someone go and bury this cursed woman, for she is the daughter of a king.” But when they went out to bury her, they found only her skull, her feet, and her hands. When they returned and told Jehu, he stated, “This fulfills the message from the Lord, which He spoke through His servant Elijah from Tishbe: ‘At the plot of land in Jezreel, dogs will eat Jezebel’s body. Her remains will be scattered like dung on the plot of land in Jezreel, so that no one will be able to recognize her.’”
Friends, there are such people in this world possessed with this spirit. May THE LORD GOD help us all and escape Jezebel spirit, life and fate, in JESUS MIGHTY NAME.
Now, how do you know you are affected by Jezebel spirit? Are you manipulative and controlling?
First of all, Jezebel spirit comes to steal, kill, and destroy. Jezebel spirit is a counterfeit spirit, and basically a very selfish ambitious spirit that wouldn’t mind to do anything to get what he or she wants.
Some Bible teachers also say that Jezebel spirit doesn’t operate only on females, but males also. So this spirit can even affect males. There are some males who have all the characteristics of the Jezebel spirit.
So if you are an idol worshiper, you bow down and rely on false gods and prophets, there you go. If you are someone who cannot submit to her husband or wife, or hates any authority and cannot submit to it, always wants to be in charge and seek to be worshiped and praised, you may be affected and bitten by this devil spirit. You need to be delivered.
If you only submit when you want something and you do it with selfish motives, if you are revengeful and not forgiving, always jealousy of others who are more successful than you and you want to take their shine by putting them down, killing their dreams, then you are affected by this demonic spirit. If you threat people, and make them believe they can never succeed without your help, you are affected by Jezebel spirit. If you have to succeed even at the cost of other people lives, and you don’t mind even to kill, then you really need to check yourself.
How do you overcome it? You need the LORD JESUS, whether you like it or not. He is the only way to Salvation and true deliverance. When we accept the Lord Jesus into our lives as our Lord and Savior, through Him, He washes our sins away, make us new again, and then His HOLY SPIRIT, The SPIRIT Of The LORD and The Living GOD, comes into our lives, and through Him we are being sanctified and protected from all these demonic forces. That’s why I have been asking for us to pray against these demonic forces so that we can be delivered from them and escape them in our lives.
