The Kingdom Of GOD In | We Shall Overcome

In the book of Jeremiah chapter 29 verse 11, it says “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

What does this mean? It means that God’s plans are not to harm us, but to give us hope and a future. So basically all these evil, afflictions, and bondage that we really hate to experience in our lives, they are really not God’s plans for us.

In the book of Romans chapter 8 verse 28, it also says “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”

God can make things work together for our good. He can turn what was meant for our harm for our good. Believe or not, not all problems are bad, some of them are blessings in disguise. Sometimes God may allow these problems to occur in our lives to save us from something and transform our lives, or make us change direction maybe where we were heading was not God’s best for us. You may cry when it happens, but when God intervenes and put the broken pieces together again, you will look back and thank Him. Whether you agree or not, God always wants the best for us.

You know, sometimes when we trust God for something and we don’t see how things are going to work out for us, it can be very discouraging especially when there has been a delay. But God is calling us to rest in Him and His promises, and simply trust Him and His lead that He is going to work out all things for our good. It’s a hardest place to be in, but God is faithful.

The Bible plainly records the mission, purpose, and vision statement of satan…hahaha, for us people of God. His mission is in three categories; to steal, kill, and destroy. If he can’t kill you, then he will steal your joy, life purpose and so on, or he will send all kinds of troubles problems, and illnesses, to destroy your life, basically your finances, marriage, family, and so on. The devil is the pro for this. He uses all kinds of tools and instruments to do that; people, temptations, malicious thoughts, your environment, if not careful even television and internet to introduce all sorts of things to you to get out of God’s will and plans for your life.

In the book of John chapter 10 verse 10, The Lord Jesus said “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” In another translation it says that “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

Satan’s plans maybe to steal, kill, and destroy, but GOD’s plans are to destroy satan’s work, to recover and restore what He originally planned and intended us to have, and give us abundance. It is what the Lord Jesus came to do on planet earth, to restore and give us back what God originally planned and intended for us to have from beginning of creation. The Lord Jesus not only came to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10), but to save the entire world (John 12:47-48), to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8), and give us eternal life (John 3:16). These are just the few things among the many He came to do.

That which is impossible with us, is possible with God. Everything is possible with God (Matthew 19:26). And that’s why we pray to God to help us basically with everything concerning our lives. And the awesome thing is that God answers prayers.

There is this story in the Bible of Jabez. The Bible says that Jabez wanted to succeed and accomplish his achievements with GOD on his side. He wanted to have success yet still remain in a very close relationship with GOD. So he prayed to GOD and the Bible says GOD answered his prayer.

In the book of 1 Chronicles chapter 4 verses 9 to 10, it records that There was a man named Jabez who was more honorable than any of his brothers. His mother named him Jabez because his birth had been so painful. He was the one who prayed to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and expand my territory! Please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all trouble and pain!” And God granted him his request.”

Jabez name meant pain. Each time people called him, they basically were calling pain. Pain come here, pain go there, pain let’s hangout. There is power in our words. Our words have power to create. Probably it was because of his name that’s why he experienced painful experiences in his life and forced him to pray to GOD to change his life.

The Bible records that Jabez dared to believe and prayed to God to help him and change his life. He prayed four things (we should pray them for ourselves and loved ones also). First, he asked God to bless him. Second, he asked God to increase his territory. We could say his influence, significance, responsibilities, and to be promoted to a higher level. Third, He asked God to be with him in all that he did. Basically he wanted God to be with him, to have His hand upon his life, and direct his steps. Fourth, he asked God to protect him from evil and pain. And the Bible says God granted him his request. The Bible doesn’t mention if it was an immediate answer, but it says God answered Jabez prayer and he became more honorable.

This amazing God. Hallelujah. It is a wonderful thing to celebrate when God answers our prayers.

Today we are going to discuss about the spirit of heaviness and heavy burden. In other Bible translations they call it a faint spirit or a spirit of despair, or hopelessness.

  • Spirit of heaviness and heavy burden

The Bible says heaviness is a spirit. It says in the book of Isaiah chapter 61 verse 1 to 3 that “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn, to console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”

I mean, the way we can describe heaviness for example, is when you are carrying a heavy backpack on your back, and it hurts your back, shoulders, even your chest. So when we are talking about heaviness, it can be a heaviness of heart that sometimes it could even make you suffer with conditions such as high or low blood pressure, tiredness, you are constantly feeling weak and dizzy, because your heart is carrying so many things; anger, pain, grudges, resentment, disappointments, and so forth. It could also be a heaviness of mind that could cause you to even suffer migraines, depression, suicidal thoughts, or mental illness.

I looked online for the definition of a heavy burden, and here are the few definitions: To hold or carry something heavy or accept or deal with something difficult; to put a heavy burden on someone; to have responsibility for something difficult or unpleasant.

In this life a lot of us are carrying a lot of burdens, some are very obvious even people can tell, while others are hidden until something happens and we realize we were carrying a heavy burden concerning something, and it has caused us serious implications.

The Lord Jesus said in the book of Matthew chapter 11 verses 28 to 30, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Another translation says “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened [by religious rituals that provide no peace], and I will give you rest [refreshing your souls with salvation]. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me [following Me as My disciple], for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest (renewal, blessed quiet) for your souls. For My yoke is easy [to bear] and My burden is light.”

This spirit exists. And usually it starts small and then it grows. Sometimes problems in life can beat us to the maximum and cause us to be weary and heavily burdened because of the oppression we get from various issues of life. We carry anger, resentment, pain, and grudges for a really long-time, and we start having these migraines and we don’t know how they even started and appeared, because we were fine.

In this life we are stressed out with so many things. Some of them because we have so much responsibilities and less help, some of them because what others have done to us, we have been mistreated. This life can be full of pain experiences to cause people to being weary and grow tired and give up in life, give up on themselves, on their dreams and goals because they feel trapped, overwhelmed, discouraged, and frustrated. All of these things can suck life out of us.

The spirit of heaviness is on a mission to get you down so that you can’t see the brighter side of life and the goodness of God in your life.  It is sent to oppress you basically to get you out of the good side.

Oppression comes from the devil, it doesn’t come from God. You know the devil can orchestrate things to keep you out of the Will of GOD, and not enjoy life. And he can use people, circumstances, and so on to oppress you. He can mess up your mind, health, finances, relations, and sorts of things. You won’t know it’s him because he works behind the scenes. He creates issues, and put suggestions in people’s mind to discourage and oppress you.

As the Bible says in the book of Isaiah 61 verse 3, praise and thanksgiving can get rid the spirit of heaviness and burden. When we lose hope, we need to praise God more and count our blessings. We need to wear the garment of praise and thanksgiving, and it will chase the heaviness and hopelessness away, discouragement and anger away, and so forth.

The Bible also says God inhabits the praises of His people. When we praise and worship Him, sing Him hymns of praise and thanksgiving,  He will show up, and when God shows up that heaviness has to go because He will refresh us again with His strength, joy, faith, hope, love, and et cetera.

The Bible says in His presence, there is full of joy. And king David knew this secret. He had supernatural experiences of joy when he praised GOD. He encountered GOD’s presence and joy when he praised Him. He said in the book of Psalm chapter 16 verse 11, “You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” He also said in the book of Psalm chapter 34 verse 1, “I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth.”

Another example of the person recorded in the Bible who knew this secret is Habakkuk. In the book of Habakkuk chapter 3 verses 17 to 18, Habakkuk said “Though the fig tree may not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines; though the labor of the olive may fail, and the fields yield no food; though the flock may be cut off from the fold, and there be no herd in the stalls— yet I will rejoice in the LordI will joy in the God of my salvation.” As you can see Habakkuk knew what to do when things seemed hopeless. He invited God into his circumstances by rejoicing and praising Him because he knew it would connect him to God, his salvation and deliver.

There is a benefit when we sing to GOD and tell Him we are grateful in prayer. We should make a habit to praise and worship GOD as part of our lives and we will experience joy in full. We will be able to get rid of our stress easily.

The truth is, He is worthy of our praises and worship. Nobody is like Him. Hallelujah.

We need to develop the habit of praise and thanksgiving to get rid of the spirit of heaviness and heavy burden to prevent any opening for the works of the devil, such as evil, pain, frustrations, discouragements, and all other types of oppression we can experience in this life to operate in our lives and control us.

So that’s how we get rid of this garment or spirit of heaviness and burden, by wearing the garment or spirit of praise, and draw near to God, and learn of Him, and He promised that we will find rest for our souls.

In the book of Ephesians chapter 5 verses 18 to 20, Apostle Paul also said “Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

By singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among ourselves and making music to the Lord in our hearts and give thanks for everything to God the Father in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we will be filled with the Holy Spirit, the Presence and Power of God. And when we are filled with the Presence of God, joy comes and hopelessness goes.

When we bring our issues to God and learn of Him, and spend quality time with Him in His Word and teachings, and surround ourselves with Salvation, praise and thanksgiving songs, He will give us rest from whatever is troubling us. The Lord Jesus said His yoke is easy to bear and His burden brings light to our situations.

As usual we are going to pray concerning what we have discussed today. We are going to pray for ourselves, and loved ones, and anyone connected to us the following prayer points;

  • LORD, let hope rise in our situations where it seems to be no hope. Turn our situations around for our good. Where our hearts are broken, please heal us. Where our relationships are broken, please restore them. Heal us where healing is needed, deliver us where deliverance is needed. This we pray in the Mighty NAME OF JESUS CHRIST.
  • Fill us with joy. Heal us from all kinds of illness that were caused because of the spirit of heaviness and heavy burden. Deliver us from evil spirits, witchcraft, and all attacks from the enemy controlling and manipulating us. This we pray in the Mighty NAME OF JESUS CHRIST.
  • We come against every joy stealer and everything that will take away our joy in the Mighty NAME OF JESUS CHRIST. Thank YOU HOLY FATHER, in JESUS MIGHTY NAME we have prayed. Amen
