Hi guys, quick updates. One, YouCount Magazine will not be published this coming quarter season. Two, I have posted again on Lovely Helen Journal, so keep checking there too.
Now lets’ continue with our post for today.
The LORD JESUS said in the book of John chapter 14 verse 15, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.” Meaning that we prove our love to GOD through our obedience. In our previous post we learned that GOD may bring someone to you, your future potential, but it’s still up to you to choose that person. GOD knows that person, and HE also knows you. HE also knows what’s in store for both of you, because He can see the future, things to come. So sometimes we may want certain people, but GOD knows the future how it will turn out if you get in that relationship. Therefore, HE may want to save you from something, so out of HIS love for you, since you have chosen to be HIS, something will happen to cause that relationship not to workout. GOD knows what’s going to be good for you and who is going to be good for you. HE also knows what the plans HE has for you. What GOD will do is to convince you to get out of that relationship. HE will bring circumstances to open your eyes to see the differences, between what you want, and what HE has in-store for you, which is basically what you need. HE will give you hints, and when the one HE has in-store for you come, you will just know. If you are led by The HOLY SPIRIT, HE will speak to you.
I like what Scripture says in the book of Hebrews chapter 12 verses 6 to 11 says, “For whom the LORD loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives.” If you endure chastening, GOD deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the FATHER of spirits and live? For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.”
The LORD chastens us because HE loves us and wants the best for us. This includes even in our relationships, remember now GOD desires us to have godly relationships, godly families, godly spouses, godly children, and so forth. But yet, we still have to be willing to align with HIS Will and HIS Help. We still need to submit and obey.
Even though I think GOD is more concerned on the spiritual and godly attributes, but HE will still bring someone that you would like. Look, beauty is on the eyes of the beholder. What you think is not beautiful; somebody else may think is beautiful.
The Bible says in the book of Proverbs chapter 12 verse 4 that “A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones.” Another translation says “A valiant wife is the crown of her husband, and as a boring worm in wood, the woman that does evil things destroys a husband.”
We all have got different tastes and what we like. So, you do you, because you are the one who is going to live with that person for the rest of your life.
Now, we are continuing with our series. And today we are going to discuss on the spirit of lust. In our previous post of the series, even though we touched on the marital foundation problems, but we also discussed on the spirit of witchcraft. And I forgot to mention that while witch usually refers to a female, but in witchcraft world, a man who performs witchcraft is called a warlock or wizard. So for females they are called witches, and for males warlocks or wizards.
- Spirit of Lust
People can lust for anything. It’s not just sexual desires, people can lust for money, fame, power, position, material possessions, food, status, and so on. Lust is the state of being unsatisfied, always wanting and thirsty for more and more, to feed wrong things or motives. And what we lust for has consequences, and can lead us to sin.
The LORD JESUS said in the book of Matthew chapter 5 verse 6, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” So as you can see to want more of righteousness is not sin. Because righteousness does not feed wrong things or wrong motives, but it feeds the things pleasing to GOD.
Scriptures shows us when is the spirit of lust is considered to be sin, or to lead to sin. For instance, in the book of Exodus chapter 20, in verse 14, it says “You shall not commit adultery.” In verse 17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.” In another translation, verse 17 says, “You must not be envious of your neighbor’s house, or want to sleep with his wife, or want to own his slaves, oxen, donkeys, or anything else he has.”
The LORD JESUS also said in the book of Matthew chapter 5 verses 27 to 30, that “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.”
As you can see the spirit of lust leads to sin, depending on what you are lusting for. The spirit of lust can make you sin against your own body, oneself, or your own life, and against other people. So the spirit of lust is an issue.
In some cultures for example, if you lust and go after someone else husband or wife, you can get really in trouble, of course unless if they are truly born-again, they have a fear of GOD, they will hold their peace and let you move on with your life without a serious fuss. The Bible even records about this, that the spirit of lust can get you in trouble if not careful. In the book of Proverbs chapter 6 verses 20 to 35, it says that “My son, keep your father’s command and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. Bind them always on your heart; fasten them around your neck. When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you. For this command is a lamp, this teaching is a light, and correction and instruction are the way to life, keeping you from your neighbor’s wife, from the smooth talk of a wayward woman. Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes. For a prostitute can be had for a loaf of bread, but another man’s wife preys on your very life. Can a man scoop fire into his lap without his clothes being burned? Can a man walk on hot coals without his feet being scorched? So is he who sleeps with another man’s wife; no one who touches her will go unpunished. People do not despise a thief if he steals to satisfy his hunger when he is starving. Yet if he is caught, he must pay sevenfold, though it costs him all the wealth of his house. But a man who commits adultery has no sense; whoever does so destroys himself. Blows and disgrace are his lot, and his shame will never be wiped away. For jealousy arouses a husband’s fury, and he will show no mercy when he takes revenge. He will not accept any compensation; he will refuse a bribe, however great it is.”
This spirit is troubling many of us, not just in an area of adultery. If you have heard the term being greedy, it’s the same as this spirit of lust, even though greedy is more related on wanting more and more of money. But you can also be greedy of fame, food, and so forth. When we are greedy for money, we can cause a lot of damage. We can get involved in much misconduct without even care the overall costs in the long-run. The spirit of lust or greed focuses on the now, it doesn’t calculate the future consequences. Because of greed, people steal, involved in money laundering, etc.
How do you know you lust after something? Well, the spirit of lust comes like an addiction, obsession, or craving for something to fill the void inside of you. The spirit of lust often focuses on pleasing and fulfilling our itching personal and selfish desires regardless of how bad the consequences can be. You just want it so badly, and you don’t care of the consequences, you don’t care if it will hurt you or someone else. The spirit of lust itself is a force behind our addictions and cravings, you can say.
The Bible says in the book of 1 Thessalonians chapter 4 verses 3 to 8 “For this is the Will of GOD, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know GOD; that no one transgress and wrong his brother in this matter, because the LORD is an avenger in all these things, as we told you beforehand and solemnly warned you. For GOD has not called us for impurity, but in holiness. Therefore whoever disregards this, disregards not man but GOD, Who gives HIS HOLY SPIRIT to you.”
As born-again Christians we are called to holy living and being selflessness. We are called to deny our fleshly desires, and craved for holiness. Scripture says GOD has called us to be holy, not to live impure lives. Anyone who refuses to live by these rules is not disobeying human rules but is rejecting GOD, Who gives HIS HOLY SPIRIT to us. And unless our desires are turned over to the LORD, we will never be satisfied.
I used to lust for so many things and GOD delivered me from them. HE is still continuing to deliver me to this day with what I’m still struggling with. There are many things that used to bother me, used to be a big deal to me, but nowadays I don’t even consider them to be that big deal anymore. Some of them, I don’t even pay attention to them anymore.
If you are struggling with lust, pray to GOD to help you remove that thirst and crave that is causing you to lust for whatever you are struggling with. GOD will fill you with HIS Righteousness, and will cleans and uproot from the root whatever is causing you to lust after whatever you are struggling with. HE will also give you strength to refuse each time you are tempted to yield to that thing.
So if you were an alcoholic, you will eventually stop drinking. I wasn’t an alcoholic, but I used to drink heavily regularly, and I knew wasn’t good, but I couldn’t quit on my own completely. I will stop, and then go back. Or I will decrease the consumption. And I really don’t know how it happened, but all I know is that I prayed to GOD to help me quit drinking, and one day I just said no when temptation came, and I never looked back, it was just like that. I also stopped going to night clubs. Just before I stopping going to night clubs, I remember how my friends and I, used to discuss about the Gospel in the Club. I’m serious; I will be drunk and preaching. And I will always find some backslidden born-again Christians there and we will start discussing what the Bible says…hahaha. Usually we will start casual conversations, and then we will end up discussing the Bible. All of us drunk, but still the Bible flowing out of our mouths…hahaha. I’m not kidding guys. One day I saw pictures taken of this born-again Christian friend that I know, drunk in the club, and they were talking about her, and I looked at her, I saw a reflection of me, and from that day I never went back again to the night club, pub, or night lounge. That’s all it took for me to say, no more for me. I also used to care a lot about shoes. I used to have awesome collection of shoes, some of them I couldn’t even walk in them, I just wanted to have them high hills…hahaha. Every time I went shopping, even if I didn’t have money, I would window shopping for shoes to see which one I was going to get next. Right now I really don’t make a big deal about shoes anymore. I mean, that’s just three examples. To you it could be adultery, pornography, fame, money laundering, food, material possessions, drugs, and et cetera. All you need is take note of your yearnings, cravings, and longings, some of them maybe already developing to chronic behaviors and habits, they will be so obvious.
In the book of Galatians chapter 5 verses 13 to 26, Apostle Paul said that “For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” But if you are always biting and devouring one another, watch out! Beware of destroying one another. So I say, let the HOLY SPIRIT guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses. When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of GOD. But the HOLY SPIRIT produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Those who belong to CHRIST JESUS have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to HIS cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.”
We can overcome this spirit of lust when we are led by the HOLY SPIRIT, when HE guides us and follow HIS leading in every part of our lives. Only then we won’t be doing what our sinful nature craves, because the sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.
The Power of GOD, the HOLY SPIRIT empowers and helps us to overcome our lustful desires. We need to pray to GOD to fill us with HIS HOLY SPIRIT, so HE can take over our lives, help us in every aspect. The struggle is real, so don’t struggle on your own, basically you can’t fight the spirit of lust on your own, so ask GOD The HOLY SPIRIT to help you.
Spend time on reading and meditating on GOD’s WORD to renew your mind. When we focus on GOD’s WORD we allow HIM to remove our lustful thoughts and actions, because The WORD Of GOD, renews and transforms our minds and mindsets. In the book of Romans chapter 12 verse 2, it says that “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what GOD’s Will is—HIS good, pleasing and perfect Will.” When we focus on the WORD Of GOD, we put away everything that appeals to the flesh and focus on GOD.
Do not surround yourselves with people and environment that are going to feed the lustful desires. If you can run or flee or avoid going in certain places for instance, it can help. If you have been going to strip clubs for example, don’t be surprised when you commit adultery. In the book of James chapter 4 verses 7 and 8, Apostle James said, “So humble yourselves before GOD. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to GOD, and GOD will come close to you.” Another way to resist temptations to lustful desires is to flee from it, and draw near to GOD and the things of GOD.
In the book of 1 Corinthians chapter 6 verses 9 to 20, Apostle Paul said 9-20, “Do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the Kingdom of GOD? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the Kingdom of GOD. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the Name of the LORD JESUS CHRIST and by the SPIRIT of our GOD. “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and GOD will destroy them both.” The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the LORD, and the LORD for the body. By HIS power GOD raised the LORD from the dead, and HE will raise us also. Do you not know that your bodies are members of CHRIST Himself? Shall I then take the members of CHRIST and unite them with a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.” But whoever is united with the LORD is one with HIM in spirit. Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the HOLY SPIRIT, Who is in you, Whom you have received from GOD? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor GOD with your bodies.”
We are all wrong doers and struggles with sin one way or another, but because of the LORD JESUS we can be washed, sanctified, and justified in the Name of the LORD JESUS CHRIST and by the SPIRIT of our GOD. So basically we need GOD to help us remove the spirit of lust from us. HE can wash us clean and uproot it from the root. May GOD cleans us and replace our lustful desires with HIS desires for our lives so that we can give HIM glory, in The MIGHTY NAME OF JESUS CHRIST.
